We are now on Etsy!!

Knu spent an entire Sunday dying sock yarns. She came up with some BEAUTIFUL colorways. And they are so creative with the different names too! Like "Off to the Emerald City", "Pink Elephant" and "Echo Park". With all of the beautiful colors they came up with, we are going to list them on Etsy! Woodstock sold only 3 hours after being listed!

We love Judith!!

Only something really special could come in a package like this.

Knu and I listened to Judith MacKenzie McCuin when we went to the Black Sheep Show in Eugene last year, and we have been hooked ever since. She was the main wool judge and her story-telling painted the most vivid pictures in your mind. It didn't take Knu long to find out that Judith had her own line of dying kits and yarns, so she placed an order.

Five of the Mother MacKenzie's Miracle Dye Mix kits, which we think are fabulous!!

And best of all...

This is Judith's line of Buffalo yarn called Buffalo Gals, and it is dreamy!! You can read a review of this yarn, but beware, you'll want it! The skein is so soft, and feels lighter than air, and the colors are so deep and striking.

A new batch of kids are being born.

So far 4 baby goats have been born, and lucky Knu they are all girls!! Which is a big change from last year when only 2 out of 10 were girls. This is Gia, she is the only one with color. Gia looks to me like she was dipped in an ink well and God used her one foot and that tuff of hair on her head as a handle. TOO CUTE!! I can't wait to see the yarn made from her fleece.

The Stork is Coming to Town.

We have the best news ever to share!! We are going to have a baby. Ethan and I are very excited! Baby is due in mid July, and we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl late next month. So far we like the names Andrew Mark Cunningham for a boy and Emily Jane Cunningham for a girl.

Look at what Lynn Hildebrandt, a local Navasota resident, wrote about us in our newspaper:

"We have many art forms represented within Grimes County. One of our most interesting talents is on display amongst the antiques for sale at the new business W.C. Mercantile, which is owned by Petra Wright and Stephanie Cunningham. Mohair from locally raised Angora goats is homespun into yarn on the premises as Petra and her daughter Stephanie skillfully work their spinning wheels. This yarn is then hand-dyed and packaged for sale. Other fibers are also spun into colorful skeins which are ready for purchase. Everyone will take delight in visiting this new Navasota attraction and getting to know Petra and Stephanie!
W.C. Mercantile offers booth rentals at a very reasonable rate. Local artists and craftsmen are welcome to share the space in this store. What an exciting place this will become as our local talents gather there to display their works and share their skills! By joining in a co-op such as this, an artist can keep his/her day job and still display their art works for sale without having to be present all the time. Artists' creations are often one of a kind, and are the future priceless treasures of this world!"

We only met her for a few minutes. I can't believe what wonderful things she wrote, how nice!!

Broken Windows.

I get a phone call on my way home from work the other night and its the Navasota Police. They said that my building has had a window pane crash onto the ground and that it could have killed someone. So I asked, did anyone get hurt? And the answer was, NO, but they could have. I felt pretty bad. Now I am looking into replacing the windows upstairs. I've got shopping to do!!

There is lots to Blog about today.

Mom and Dad bought two new donkeys. Meet the Jennys. They are Mom and Daughter. The baby's has been named Naomi. I like Bonnie for the Momma. It has to pass the committee.

Candice is our official model.

We worked hard the day we last had the goats sheared. It wasn't even 8:30am and we were too hot to talk. As a thank you gift, Candice got to pick a purse out of a book to be made just for her. This is what she pick. Its lovely. And Candice LOVES it too. Thank you for modeling it for me CaCa!!

Wow! Look what we did today!

This was the largest Lego set ever!! No, its an Ashford County Spinner spinning wheel. Knu and I spent a good part of our day treating the wood, waxing the wood, buffing the wood and then putting all these pieces together. We only had a few left over parts, just kidding! I think it looks great! I had so much pride in it, when we were done I just had to drive back to Navasota and put it in the display window (duh! why didn't I take the picture of it on display!!)

In between all of the spinning wheel fun, we dyed. Knu let me pick the color. I mixed a little bit of grey and purple and this is what we got. Its not that bright of a purple, I call it Hubba Bubba. Coming soon to a knitting store in Navasota!!

Its so beautiful!

Mom said, "If I like it, then everyone is going to like it too!" She wasn't kidding. I had this listed on eBay for less than a week, and only 16 people even viewed it before someone bought all 10 skeins of this lovely colorway. Its my favorite right now also. This is the Malabrigo Chunky in "Snow Bird". So guess what...I ordered more!

Cold Drinks for Sale.

I want one of these. Anyone know where I can get a little glass display cooler to sell drinks in? I don't even know what it would be called to search it on the internet. I just know WC Mercantile will have thirsty clients. Really I just want to sell the Starbuck's Frappuccinos.

Wheels and Bobbins and Swifts, OH MY!

Our order for spinning wheels is on its way. I can't wait to get the swift, it will make ball rolling so much easier. We will be one of very few places around Houston where people can see the wheels before they buy.
VERY COOL!

Today vs. Yesterday

Can you tell a difference yet? We have worked so hard. The best thing yet is the window shades on the upper floor windows. We've cleaned and painted and cleaned and painted. I can't wait 'til the trade people are done with their part.

Time to blog all about it.

Today is the day, our star is born, or is it a building? a really old building. Its our website: wcmercantile.com What a week! I have been at the Bookman everyday. Cleaning, meeting people to give me bids on repairs, cleaning, eating at the local cafes, meeting neighbors. D came with me most days and kept me on track. Maybe its because Knu was there but today it feels real. I was up to my elbows in paint. And Knu was setting up the cash register. I can't wait, I wish I could look into a seeing glass to know what the future will bring. Pictures to come soon. We ordered yarn on the 6th of August and it showed up today. Is anyone else loving Sudoku as much as I do. I play everyday.

AND THE WINNER IS....

WC Mercantile!
So together Knu and I are brand new partners. We own the Bookman! And Ms. Wolks was turned out to be very sweet! She wasn't in the room with us for less than a second and she gave Knu a big hug! She tutors children, has 3 birds that like to eat cottage cheese, and has a dog named "Poopsey" who she feeds turkey sandwiches. She said she had been working in that building since she was 3 years old. I have no new pictures from our crazy day yesterday because between the two partners and the intern not one of us remembered the camera. At least we didn't loose the check.

Andy and the ladies.

While Danielle and Mike were at Prom, Sharon, Linda and I went out to eat at BJ's Brewhouse. We even had a special guest...Andrew Nations. He was our evenings entertainment. Linda taught him sippy-cup soccer. And almost anything he did, we all would clap and clap. The people around us were quite amused. We kept him up way past his bedtime, but he didn't mind, he never once got fussy.
